Rennes (bret. Roazhon, gallo Resnn) – miejscowość i gmina we Francji, w regionie Bretania, w departamencie Ille-et-Vilaine, stolica Bretanii.
Według danych na rok 2018 gminę zamieszkiwało ok. 221 tys. osób[1] (wśród 1269 gmin Bretanii Rennes plasuje się na 1. miejscu pod względem liczby ludności, natomiast pod względem powierzchni – na miejscu 78.). Działa tam polski konsulat honorowy.
Rennes jest miastem w północno-zachodniej części Francji nad rzeką Vilaine, przy ujściu Ille. Obszar miejski miał 217 tys. mieszkańców w 2012 roku.
Historia
W starożytności był to stołeczny gród Condate plemienia Redonów. Pod panowaniem rzymskim przekształcone w Condate Redonum.
W 1532 roku włączone do Francji.
Gospodarka
Największym zakładem aglomeracji Rennes jest założona w 1962, zatrudniająca około 10 tys. pracowników fabryka aut koncernu PSA, która jest zlokalizowana na południe od miasta w strefie La Janais. Montowane są tam modele Citroën C5, Citroën C6 i Peugeot 407. W 2005 fabryka wyprodukowała 340 tys. aut.
