Od północy graniczy z dystryktami Madurai i Sivaganga, od wschodu z dystryktem Ramanathapuram, od południa z dystryktami Tuticorin i Tirunelveli, od zachodu ze stanem Kerala i dystryktem Theni. Stolicą dystryktu Virudhunagar jest miasto Virudhunagar.
