Cast skeleton of primitive bird
Archaeopteryx
This cast skeleton was produced by Dr. Lary D. Martin of University of Kansas, a leading authority on primitive birds, by pulling molds off casts of most of the Archaeopteryx specimens. The skeleton has been mounted in an arboreal (tree-climbing) posture. Recent research on bird claws shows that claws of Archaeopteryx most closely match the claws of anoreal birds, rather those of ground-living birds. Note the three-clawed wing of Archaeopteryx, a condition not found in living birds.
