Indie wystartowały po raz pierwszy na letnich IO w 1900 roku na igrzyskach w Paryżu. Następny start miał miejsce 20 lata później na igrzyskach w Antwerpii w 1920 roku i od tamtej pory reprezentacja Indii wystartowała na wszystkich igrzyskach. Najwięcej złotych medali i medali w ogóle Indie zdobyły w hokeju na trawie, co daje im tytuł najbardziej utytułowanej reprezentacji na igrzyskach olimpijskich w tej dyscyplinie[1].
