Malediwy składają się z 26 naturalnych atoli, które podzielone są na 21 jednostek administracyjnych: 19 atoli administracyjnych i dwóch miast - stołecznego Male oraz Addu.
Nazwą każdego z atoli administracyjnych jest nazwa litery alfabetu thaana:
