Trojan – pojazd wsparcia technicznego i rozminowania produkcji brytyjskiej używany przez saperów Armii Brytyjskiej do usuwania pól minowych w rejonach konfliktów zbrojnych oraz wielu innych zadań związanych z zabezpieczeniem technicznym. Pojazd jest również określany mianem AVRE (skrót od: Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) co jest związane z funkcją pełnioną przez niego w Brytyjskiej Armii[1].

Charakterystyka

Pojazd został zbudowany na podwoziu czołgu Challanger 2 jednak w miejscu wieży posiada on hydrauliczne ramię zdolne do przenoszenia obiektów w pewnej odległości od pojazdu. Ramię jest również wykorzystywane do rozwijania faszyn przed i za pojazdem. Pojazd posiada pług przystosowany do rozminowywania, jest on umieszczony z przodu i wyposażony w grabię, które naruszając strukturę gleby detonują ewentualne miny i inne ładunki zakopane pod powierzchnią ziemi. Pojazd może być również wykorzystany jako pług torujący drogę innym pojazdom[1].

Jedyne uzbrojenie Trojana stanowi jeden zamontowany obok włazu karabin maszynowy kal. 7,62 mm.

Pojazd może być wyposażony w zestaw do oczyszczania pól minowych, wystrzeliwujący ładunki, których detonacja następuje po upadku na ziemię. W ten sposób możliwe jest oczyszczenie pasa ziemi o szerokości siedmiu i długości 230 metrów[2].

Historia

Pojazd został zbudowany w zakładach BAE Systems Land Systems. Został przetestowany w 2007 roku przez wojsko angielskie. Większość pojazdów tego typu znajduje się w Kanadzie skąd są transportowane na ćwiczenia przeprowadzane przez armię.

Chrzest bojowy Trojan przeszedł podczas operacji w Afganistanie w roku 2009. Podczas operacji Musztarak pojazdy tego typu zostały użyte do oczyszczania terenu z min IED na obszarach działania wojsk brytyjskich[3]. Do tej pory wyprodukowano 33 pojazdy tego typu.

Na podwoziu czołgu Challanger 2 zbudowano również pojazd do kładzenia mostu pontonowego Titan. Wyprodukowano 33 mosty pontonowe oparte na tej konstrukcji.

Trojan is an armoured engineer vehicle designed to open routes through complex battlefield obstacles and clear a path through minefields. Trojan is also known as the Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers (AVRE).

Standard equipment includes a dozer blade, mineplough and excavator arm. Along with Titan it gives a common heavy Armoured Engineer fleet.

A Full-Width Mine Plough can be mounted at the front to clear mines and a marking system can also be fitted. It can also carry fascines to drop into ditches and tow a trailer-mounted rocket-propelled mine-clearing system.

A mighty Trojan Tank belonging to 5 Armoured Engineer Squadron, cuts through the sand on Operation Hamkari in Afghanistan. The AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) is used in conjuction with other vehicles and the Python weapon system for clearing IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices).

The bulk of British military operations in Afghanistan are concentrated in central Helmand. But Royal Engineers have spent the past two months lending their awesome capabilities to Afghan and US forces clearing a key area of Kandahar province.

Since September, 5 Armoured Engineer Squadron, part of 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault), have provided close engineering support to the 2nd Battalion of the US ArmyÕs 502nd Regiment, and their partnered Afghan National Army kandak, in KandaharÕs Zharay district.

Zharay district contains the Horn of Panjwai, an insurgent stronghold from where attacks on Kandahar City have been enabled and supported, and Sangsar, the Taleban's spiritual birthplace and former home of Mullah Omar. Under this effort, known as Operation HAMKARI - or as the soldiers call it "The Battle of Kandahar" - the intent has been to defeat insurgent elements and increase Afghan government influence across the area, as well as enable development west of Kandahar City.

The Trojan AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) is a modern and capable vehicle crewed by three personnel.

On 15th February 2010 the Royal Engineers fired their latest weapon in their battle against the Taliban for the first time – an exploding hose which punches safe passage through suspected IED belts.

The Python rocket is a trailer-mounted, rocket-propelled mine-clearing system pulled behind the Trojan armoured engineer tank. The Python system fires a snake of high explosives.

The detonation, across a suspected IED field in a dry river bed – wadi – north of Patrol Base Wahid, shook the ground either side of the detonation, and created a huge cloud several hundred metres high.
