A compromise was worked out the same year: a northern sector including the bishporics of Lyon, Vienne and Grenoble was alloted to Lothar II and placed under the control of count Gerard, while the southern ecclesiastical provinces of Arles, Aix and Embrun were incorporated into the kingdom of Italy.
